Hi,

Private medical schools charge roughly in the range of $25,000 to $32,000 for tuition per year. Obviously you're not likely to go to public/state medical schools since most of their seats are reserved for in-state residents and even if you get into a public school they will charge you non-resident tuition which is roughly equal to the cost of private schools.

In addition to tuition, you will need living expenses--food, housing, etc which can run at least $15,000 per year or more (as much as $25,000) depending where you go to school and provided that you live without fanfare. On top of that you will need maybe $2,000-4,000 on various educational expenses from books and stethoscopes to photocopying.

So I would approximate that you would need at least $50,000 per year to attend medical school and maybe as much as $10,000 more than that (ie $60,000). In the end it will of course depend where you will get in and choose to go. As you probably well aware you living expenses in New York will be much higher than if you went to school somewhere in rural states where the cost of living is half of what it is in NY.

Best of luck,

Alex
