Subj: 7-8 year med school programs

Date: 9/22/99

Your site was very useful. I am looking (been unsuccessful with all the web searches!) for a list of schools that get you into the med program directly after high school. I know of Brown, UMKC (U of Missouri at Kansas City) only. Any other leads? How advisable/difficult is it to go to these 7 yr progs? At least one doesn't have to wrestle with MCATs and high GPAs. What are the requirements for such schools? Reply will be greatly appreciated.

A complete list can be found at the following site:

Information on Schools Offering Combined College-M.D. Programs from AAMC

I can't comment on the difficulty of getting in into combined BA/MD programs. I think it depends on the program, but you probably will need to show very good high school performance. The drawback of such programs is that you can't really choose your "#1 choice" for college because only so many have such programs and you're limited with your admissions offers.

You should not fool yourself thinking that you can slack off in college and still be guaranteed medical school admissions if you do a 7-year program. They still require you to keep a "minimal" GPA, which could be quite high (depends on the program, I don't know the details).
